TRAVEL HINTS

Prior to travel

* Prepare a list of emergency phone numbers. Invest in a wide base wheeled suitcase, preferably a ‘Polycarbonate’ version for its lightness qualities and durability.

* Have some spare I.D photos on hand. You will need one for your weekly Metro Card (3cm x 3cm).

* Credit Card or Debit Cards – if possible have 2, just in case one is stolen or damaged. Best option is the debit card ‘Travelex’ http://www.travelex.com.au/for-you/cash-passport.

* To avoid being pick-pocketed, don’t carry wallets, especially in back pocket. If necessary have a chest wallet or money belt.

* The ultimate in securing your personal belongings whilst on your daily activities, is to have a ‘Travel Safe’ cross shoulder anti-theft and RFID (credit card information blocking) safe shoulder bag. 

* Always carry an ID. Leave Passport, extra Credit/Debit card and flight tickets in your apartment’s safe.

* Prior to departure, photocopy all documents such as – Airline e-tickets, Insurance Policy number/contact details, Passport and Credit/Debit Cards and store them in your main luggage.

* When traveling conceal all documents in a separate compartment within your suitcase.

* Always when carrying your credit/debit cards have a spare copy of the numbers & emergency cancellation phone number elsewhere in your possession such as your Smartphone.

* Smartphone – should be connected to International Roaming prior to departure and make sure you set up a password protection to access your Smartphone.

* Include on your Smartphone emergency ‘card cancellation phone number’ just in case your card is lost or stolen.

* All landline calls to all destinations should have the prefix (+) followed by the country code, state code and landline number. 

* When booking your flight ticket we recommend an aisle seat. Easier to exist your seat if you wish to go on walks whilst on-board the aircraft.

* You can request a dietary menu for on-board flight meals when booking your ticket.

* A doctor’s certificate is advisable if carrying prescribed medication, in case requested by immigration authority.

* Duty-free shopping should be purchased from ‘Place of Origin’, especially if you are buying electronic goods and may have to be returned under warranty.

* Limit on-board luggage; though include emergency clothing in case of temporary loss of main suitcase once you have arrived at your destination.

* Include personal toiletries (refer to new Government rules for taking on board Liquids) and if on medication – take a week’s supply together with any repeats prescription, in case of total loss of main suitcase.

* When ‘checking-in’ your luggage, examine receipt tag to make sure that it is confirmed to your final destination.

* Make sure your luggage is name tagged and that it include your smartphone number including your international area code.

* Make sure that your luggage displays a distinguishable bold mark or colour, so that you can easily identify as your luggage comes out on the conveyor belt at your final destination. This prevents your luggage from being wrongly picked up. 

Whilst on-board

* Strongly recommend you wear loose clothes, remove your shoes and wear thick socks.

* Take frequent walks along aisles/passages to prevent jetlag and drink plenty of water. 

* When taking a long nap put on earplugs and wear eye patch band.

Travel Accessories

• Pocket knife/corkscrew, though NOT to be included with onboard luggage.

• Electric plug converter adaptor for European standard.

* Add to toiletry bag – Nurofen/Panadol, Diarrhoea tablets, eye drop solution.

* Combine a fabric softener & wool mix for light clothes washing whilst at your apartment, as water in Paris is quite hard.

* Elastic clothesline to hang your light clothes in bathroom.

* Small compact umbrella just in case of rainy weather on your walks or buy it there in Paris.
