Meet your tour leader: Alex Syndikas

Alex Syndikas is the principal guide leader, for the ‘Footsteps of the Impressionists & Beyond’ tour to Paris. Completely tri-lingual in English, French and Italian, he is passionately interested in all aspects of French culture, and especially the history, art and architecture, and gastronomy. Highly experienced as a tour leader since 1999, completing 20 annual study tours to Paris. In July 2020, he will be conducting his 21st tour.

He has a Master degree in Fine Art from Rochester – NY USA and Graduate Studies from the prestigious School of American Craftsman New York. Other qualifications are from Sheffield College – England UK, RMIT University Melbourne (AUS) and University of Melbourne (AUS) in areas of Distant Online Education, Professional Photography, Art History, Museums Curatorial Studies and Conservation Practices, respectively.

The ‘Footsteps of the Impressionists & Beyond’ tour focuses on the lives and districts of the key artistic players of the ‘French Impressionists’, ‘Neo-Impressionists’ and writers, performers and musicians of the early part of the 20th Century –‘Luminous Years’ in Paris. The tour main focus is in tracing the exact locations where some of the most iconic paintings were conceived, which are now in the major museum collections of the world.

Alex was a former Co-Director, of the BA Photography Program at RMIT University (Melbourne) with 30 years lecturing experience in Still Photography, Historical Photographic Processes and Museum Studies until his retirement in 2015. Alex continues his artistic career having completed 22 solo and 79 group exhibitions which were held locally and internationally in the United States, Europe, South America and China. His art combines photography with mix-media and also works in sculpture using glass, bronze and marble. His images are in permanent collections in Belgium, Portugal, Spain, New York City, Rochester, Arizona, Malaysia, France and Australia.
